Constructed Nature choker
The idea for this project developed from my interest in the relationship we as human beings form with the natural world. This led me to explore how this relationship has been changed by urbanism, and how these changes have manifested into different city patterns from the medieval age to the present day. A long process of research on the savage division between the urban and nature and its impact on human wellbeing and our environment helped me to arrive at this work which deals with a complex question about the problem of modern society.
My intention is for the choker is to be restrictive when it is worn, creating a rigid posture as the wearer places it around the neck. Here I am making reference to our shared experiences such as alienation, isolation, and homogenization and also to the feeling of being trapped or suffocated as urbanites.
During the exhibition, visitors were invited for active participation by wearing the choker neckpiece. The exhibition featured a talkback area where participants could contribute their own reflections by writing a note and adhering to the wall. Through this action, the audience became a part of the work and interacted with it on a physical and emotional level.
